Experimental and Numerical Study of Bottom Rack Occlusion by Flow with Gravel-Sized Sediment. Application to Ephemeral Streams in Semi-Arid Regions

چکیده
Abstract: Rainfall runoff collection in ephemeral streams is an objective in semi-arid zones. Rack intake systems are proposed to collect these flash floods with intensive sediment transport. The design parameters address the problem of clogging the spacing between bars. Experiments for two different void ratio racks are shown. Flows, longitudinal slopes in the rack, and water with three gravel-sized sediments were tested. Results such as effective void ratio due to the gravel deposition over the rack, the evolution of the flow rejected during each test, and the quantification of materials collected and deposited, are presented. The optimal longitudinal rack slope seems to be close to 30%. The effective void ratio is related to several hydraulic parameters calculated at the beginning of the rack. Some adjustments were proposed to predict the effective void ratio.

Statistical model of daily flow in arid and semi arid regions
Abstract Stochastic model for synthetic data generation is not available for daily flows of intermittent streams. Such a model is required in the planning and operation of structures on an intermittent stream for purposes where short time flow fluctuations are important. In this study a model is developed for such a case. The model consists of four steps: determination of the days on which fl...

This research aims to introduce the water supply method required for pistachio orchards in semi-arid climatic regions using the rainwater harvesting technique. For this purpose, a rain catchment system with an area of 1000 m2 was constructed at the Tasuj Station site. Based on the mean annual rainfall of the region, runoff threshold, runoff coefficient for insulation surfaces and the area of th...

Most of river engineering problems are complicated and need to be analyzed by three dimensional models of flow and sediment transport. Considering the fact that computers and numerical methods with great ability of flow and sediment transport simulation are developing quickly, using numerical modeling by engineers is inevitable. Nevertheless, before application, numerical models need to be veri...
متن کاملNumerical Analysis of Sediment Transport in Sewer Pipe
The efficiency and economical performance of sewer systems is an essential issue in urban drainage. The need for sewers to carry sediment has been recognized for many years. One of the main problems in designing sewerage systems is the sediment deposition. Sedimentation in sewers occurs regularly according to the alternating natural flow. The present study investigates the hydraulic characteris...

Statistical frequency analysis is the most common procedure for the analysis of flood data at a gauged location thatin first step it is needed to select a model to represent the population. Among them, the central moment has been themost common and widely used, and with the using of computers, the application of the maximum likelihood hasincreased. This research was carried out in order to reco...
